The goal of the California State Horsemen’s Association (CSHA) Trail Riders Awards Program (TRAP) is to recognize and honor trail riders—the foundational members of CSHA—while promoting the use, preservation, and maintenance of riding and hiking trails throughout California. Established in 1988, TRAP encourages equestrians to log their hours spent on trails, whether riding, driving, or walking their horses, as well as time dedicated to trail construction and maintenance.
Impact
By documenting trail usage, TRAP provides valuable data that supports the continued access and upkeep of trails, especially in times when such areas face potential closure. Participants receive recognition through patches, chevrons, plaques, and awards at various milestones, fostering a sense of accomplishment and community among trail enthusiasts.
All Inclusive
The program is inclusive, welcoming CSHA members of all ages and riding disciplines, and aims to cultivate a community of responsible trail users who contribute to the sustainability of California’s equestrian pathways.
